Himmafushi is a lively local island just north of the airport, best known for the Jailbreaks surf break and its easy-going village. It is the perfect first or last stop on any Maldives trip, or a quick break on its own. You stay at Cocomo Maldives, a modern hotel with a swimming pool, a private beach area and air-conditioned balcony rooms. Breakfast and dinner are included, along with a buggy tour of the island and an hour of non-motorised water sports.

- Day 1Arrive
Short speedboat ride from Velana Airport to Himmafushi. Early check-in when available.
- Day 2See the island
Buggy tour around Himmafushi, then an hour of kayaking or paddleboarding. Surfers can watch – or ride – the waves at Jailbreaks.
- Day 3Your day
Pool, beach and house reef. Excursions such as sandbank trips and dolphin cruises can be added.
- Day 4Departure
Late check-out when available, then the speedboat back to the airport.
