Royal Villa is a modern guesthouse on Fulidhoo, a small, laid-back local island in Vaavu Atoll, 57 km south of Malé. Its 20 air-conditioned rooms mix Maldivian touches with a clean, contemporary style, and the island's bikini beach is about a minute's walk from the door. Fulidhoo is known for easy encounters with marine life: the hotel's boat trips take you snorkelling with nurse sharks and turtles, over colourful coral gardens and out to sandbanks a short ride away. It suits couples, friends and families who want the real Maldives – village life, local food and the ocean on the doorstep – at guesthouse prices.

Dining & facilities
Breakfast is included in every stay, and half board adds dinner. Fresh seafood and Maldivian and international dishes are served at the hotel's restaurants, including a rooftop restaurant facing the sunrise. There is a small swimming pool, free Wi-Fi and room service.
Things to do
The hotel's own Royal Trips team runs excursions from the island: snorkelling with nurse sharks and turtles over the coral garden, a nurse shark, coral garden and sandbank trip, house reef snorkelling, sunset dolphin cruises, sunset fishing and sandbank picnics. Whale shark and manta trips run with a minimum of 8 guests. Diving can also be arranged.
Getting There
Shared speedboat from Malé takes about 1 hour 10 minutes, with departures at 10:00, 12:00 and 16:00 (Saturday to Thursday) and 09:30 and 16:00 on Fridays. Return boats leave Fulidhoo at 06:30 and 13:30. A private speedboat can be arranged at any time.
Good to know
Fulidhoo is an inhabited local island: no alcohol on the island, modest clothing in the village, swimwear on the bikini beach. Check-in 14:00, check-out 12:00. Breakfast 06:30–09:00.
